Good and Bad news.

#1 Post by Lord Tolly »

Today I actually managed to get the water pump out but on removal I dropped it onto the concrete floor and the impeller just shattered into a million bits

I know it was quite rusty but didn't realise it was that bad.

next job is to try and find a new impeller.

My dad use to tell me to put a sheet of ply under a car if you are taking off parts that could break if drop on concrete, never done it untill the day i dropped my gearbox and broke off the clutch cable holder thing if the wood was there it would have absorbed the force but you live and learn might be a impeller on the dollys in my local scrappy if you get stuck for one

The impellor is cast iron, therefore brittle. I have spare 12v impellors, but they need the underside machining...

gaaaaah ! frustrating, can happen to us all though.

confession time: When I was moving my engine around on the engine hoist, I was a little bit careless and the engine fell about 1/2 and inch onto the concrete floor, off the blocks I was using to support it. It broke off a small corner of the timing cover. I pinned and epoxied it back on

impeller ? easy fix, get onto it :D

Brand new 6 vane impellors are still available.
I have one going spare (earlier type as per 1972 Dolomite 1850).
