Tried that Joe, Didn't make any difference after a couple of days with the puller as tight as it would go. Smashed the hell out of that puller, but still no luck. I simply succeeded in taking a small chunk out of the starter ring

I gave up in the end, so the engine is back in tha car now. It can wait

On a realted note, does anyone have a spare 1300 engine around (preferably with the starter ring!), that I can buy to rebuild as and when funds allow? The current one is pretty well knackered!!

I have a spare engine that you can buy, the only catch is is that the engine is still attached to the car so will need to buy whole car , sorry I think im clean out of spare engines.

Hi James, some great work there, really interesting. I have a few of questions.....

1) The polybush set - where did you purchase and how did you specify (I ask because I have never seen a polybush set for the 1300fwd)
2) Did the poly bush set make a great difference? Would you recommend it? I ask because sometimes people warn against putting in poly bushes on older models.
3) The "reverse light switch" - could you explain a bit more what you did. This is something I'd like to do, but I am having difficulty in sourcing the right switch.

1) Polybushes were purchased individually from Chris Witor (Superflex) only the front has been done so far, all are avaliable except for the inner end of the lower wishbone (the cotton reel type with a big hole in the middle!)

2) It definitely seems better - if only cos the old bushes were falling apart!

3) Take the back of the box of (the ally plate), drill a 1/4" hole though the hoe where the switch screws in, and find a length of 1/4" steel rod. Switch (Avaliable HERE) screws in with the rod in first, you will have to adjust the length of the rod until it only activates the switch when reverse is engaged

James is currently in Holland (or will be this week anyway, I was too distracted by measuring the decibel level of my exhaust to take note of the conversation! ) so won't be replying for a bit.
Anyway, IMO, it probably wouldn't hurt...

No, I didn't use a gasket. Haven't had any leaks, so all fine
