Approx 20 minutes ago, on my way into work I saw a lovely condition Mimosa Dolomite Sprint coming towards me 8) .

Then as it draws closer I not only notice that the driver is sitting in the passenger seat (LHD) but the car is wearing (I think) Dutch registration plates which started "DD -" same size as UK plates but both front and back are the dark yellow as per our rear ones.

Then it was gone.

Anyone able to confirm that a registration number starting DD and then a hyphen is Dutch please?

Anyone recognise the description? Driving west out of Newport (IoW) at approx 8.45am.

Dutch numberplates are 6 letters/numbers, in the format XX-XX-XX:

According to Wikipedia, a registration beginning with two letters on a yellow background means the car was registered between 1978 and 1998

I think, but could be wrong that the first two letters also denote which region the car comes from.

Probably a Dutch one. At the end of the seventies the yellow background were introduced. The "DD - " isn't known by this website: http://www.triumphdolomite.nl which contains a small (not complete) register. The 'official' register (connected to Dutch Dolomite club) is contacted via http://www.triumphdolomite.blogspot.com.

Yes that is the correct plate style (just without the EU bit on the side), and yes it was definitely DD -. What a mystery then?

Looked in top order, nice shiny sports tail-pipe too (disappearing off into the distance in my rear view mirror)..

Thanks everyone for help so far.

Pretty sure (as I only saw the car from the front), it didn't have the EU marker on the front numberplate  .

At the rate they are travelling I reckon you'll be next to spot it John - probably this weekend!

Well I'm around 440 miles North of its last sighting and, when I looked out of my lounge window this morning what did I see?......

D'uh! My front lawn of course, this street is a bottom of the bag job.

However, I am on the coast and the main road that follows the coastline is only a few hundred yards away so, if they're doing their own take on the "Round Britain Run" (like the real thing, but at a time of year when the sun sets at closer to midnight than 3 in the afternoon....), I may get to see the car here.
Oh wait, there's something yellow. The fish van.

Nah, wouldn't worry about that, it's probably only harassment, causing alarm and distress.
