17/18/19 May 2013 – STAR 90 - UPDATED!

#1 Post by triumphdolomiteuk »

17/18/19 May 2013 – Put this date in your diary!!!
During this weekend, all of the Triumph clubs will be celebrating 90 years of Triumph cars. There will be a number of events taking place, mostly in the Warwickshire area, the exact details of which have yet to be finalised. The Club will be holding its annual rally as part of this celebration as well as marking the 40th anniversary of the Dolomite Sprint – we have some very special plans for this! We would like to encourage you all to try and attend this once in a lifetime event, it would be especially nice to see as many of our overseas members attending and we can offer any assistance with accommodation and travel as may be required.
We'll update this thread as more information becomes available.

LATEST INFO:
The Standard Triumph Forum presents STAR90 - a celebration event for all Standard Triumph enthusiasts. This prestigious three day event begins on the evening of Friday 17 May 2013 with a Welcome BBQ at the Chesford Grange Hotel, immediately south of Kenilworth (parking for 650 cars). For those who do not want to stay at the rally HQ hotel there is a range of other hotels nearby and camping and caravan facilities have also been booked at Stoneleigh Park, only a five minute drive away.

On Saturday 18 May 2013 there will be morning or afternoon a driving experience sessions at the Prodrive Proving Grounds at Honiley, Balsall Common, including a short circuit driving, tarmac rally course and skid pan options. An alternative range of Fun Runs are available including to Standard Triumph Monument, Coventry Motor Museum, Warwick Castle and a range of other venues and locations.

Saturday evening is Gala Dinner evening at the Banqueting suite of the Chesford Grange Hotel, with guest speaker Prodrive Chairman David Richards, Aston-Martin, and one-time Triumph ‘works’ rally co-driver with Fred Gallagher, Triumph co-driver with Tony Pond, Triumph TR7 V8 - 1978 RAC Rally, 4th Place, the highest placed non Ford Escort – a great drive
in rallying history. Along with outright wins in TR7 V8 with Tony, in other British and European events.

Sunday 19th May 2013 sees the whole event focus move approx 15 minutes down the A46 + M40 highways, from Chesford Grange to the Heritage Motor Centre Gaydon for an all-day Standard Triumph Anniversary Rally. It will include an arena, parades, a trade show, special anniversary ‘events’ presentations, interviews, full commentary. We are expecting well over
1,000 Triumphs (there were many more at the Triumph 75th Anniversary event in 1998), and many Triumph clubs. The principal organising clubs, within the framework of the Triumph Forum, include TR Register, Stag Owners Club, TSSC, T2000/2500 Register, and Club Triumph.

Booking: booking arrangements will be through the TR Register offices and website and booking arrangements will open in November 2012. Perhaps by then at today's rate of decline we could muster the remaining 40 Sprints in one place!

Why don't we have an annual rally in September as usual as well as attending this event?

Cholmondeley may well in some opinions be a great venue, but effort used to be made to move the annual rally around the Country a little; there were many 'faces' missing at this year.

If STIR doubles up as our annual rally for 2013 then we will have had two only eight months apart and potentially not another for nearly a year and a half. Yes, we could move the date to May every year, but I don't anticipate it would be as well attended as at the end of the long summer school break allows...

TDCIR should rotate and the Cholmondeley formula proves that runninjg in conjunction with another event is popular. I wouldn't fix it to Sept either. Either way willing volunteers are required for this to happen.

I must admit to being a little miffed as I had set Cholmondeley/TDCIR 2013 as the deadline date for completion of my Sprint Auto! Bringing TDCIR forward to May is not sporting! However the Carledo WILL be back on the road by then, sporting lots of new panels and fresh paint so I'll be there!

The event next May will be a huge celebration of the Triumph marque as well as being an opportunity for us to mark the 40th anniversary of the launch of the Sprint. Given the significance of the occasion we feel that this gives members from all around the world an incentive to attend.
We could only muster around 50 cars at Cholmondeley Castle this year and although it was a very well-organised and enjoyable event, that is only a fraction of the cars owned by Club members. Clearly we need to give people the very best incentive to attend our annual rally. In 2013 the Club will try and give more support to our regional "Dolly Days" (at least one of which was cancelled due to the weather this year) so that members who feel that they can't attend our main event can at least take part in a Club-supported event in their locality.

Well I'm hoping we hold the TDCIR nearer to my neck of the woods this year. The Midlands is favourite (apart from having it on Weston sea front  ) as I've missed the last two meetings as it's so far away. Surely the Midlands would attract more members?
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.
