water pump removal
just got my dolly started and now i find out i have water leaking out of the small aperture below the pump i guess the seals have gone in the pump iv got the pump cover off and the centre nut but cant get any further on with the job the manual says i need a special too where can i get one of these to hire or buy thanxs andy

This will be a slide-hammer you need. It will also be necessary to improvise an adaptor . The idea is to shock the pump out of the cylinder block with a series of upward blows. I have improvised before now with an MGB engine lifting eye and a shaped piece of steel as an anvil plus a club hammer.

Local tool hire companies are a good bet.
In my early days of 1850 ownership I tried simply lifting it out with the same MGB engine lifting eye and a hoist. I had a lot of the weight of the front of the car on the pump and it still wasn't coming out . I remember tapping the bolt head with a hammer in that state and it suddenly came out whistling past my ear. Very scary ! I'd never do that again.

cheers for that tony i have just purchased a slide hammer still to be christened to knock a dent out on my 306 plenty jobs to do lol

just to comment on ur scary experience i had a similar ordeal when i was replacing a broken front spring on a 206 went to a hire company they only gave me 2 clamps to compress the spring thought i needed 3 at the time but bloke in shop said 2 will do as i was compressing new spring it went flying past my head been told i have 9 lives lol

less than that now managed to get pump re moved borrowed a make shift tool from a local engineering works had another pump in a scrap block so used tht one so will see how much further i can get tomorrow
