1981 Sprint

#1 Post by Dollyautosprint »

Morning all! Just bought this 1981 Brooklands green Dolomite Sprint (manual). She has had two owners. The first owner purchased the car new as his company car and took over ownership upon his retirement in 1982. The second owner a Doctor bought the car in 1984 and ran it until 1991 when he put it in his garage, and there she stayed until the beginning of this month.

Needs rear brakes and cylinders, front discs, calipers and pads, master cylinder rubbers and a rear brake hose. Has a small hole to the offside rear sill and a few "rat holes" in the front panel.
Should have it back on the road mid October.
It is very original, even has a working Philips 890 radio cassette and an electric sunroof! This appears to have been dealer fitted when the car was supplied new. Will post more pictures as the work is carried out.

Offside sill.
This I cut out and found both the inner and outer sill panels, forward of this hole, to be in very good condition. We cut out about six inches from the wheel arch. Made good with new metal around the wheel arch and then let in a rear section of original sill panel, so profile etc looks good.
Forgot to take pictures of new metal, only remembered when I had applied a skim of filler to the finished panel. Oh well leason learn't!!

Electric sunroof...?! I need to see some shots of this setup, it sounds superb... This is a great looking car and I am sure it'll be a corker when it's all done and dusted...

After a few months work Olive took to the roads of Kent this weekend. After 21 years of being stored , she is now taxed and MOT'd and has driven over 150 miles since Friday, without so much as a hiccup! :D

Brilliant, it's great to see any Dolomite saved from a certain (or uncertain!) death especially a Sprint...

Do you know what sunroof this Dolly has (i.e. manufacturer)? It's a fascinating little quirk that this car had an electric sunroof fitted when it was new. Is this what had to be done to shift these cars at the end of their life...?!

Great work on getting this back on the road, superb...
