I needed complete new sills for my sprint as the tops, and front have rotted out as well as having had cover sills fitted. Since the club only does the outer part of the sill i decided against my better judgement to buy them from rimmers.
I have never seen such s##t craftmanship before.
The panel is made from no less than 6 pieces badly stuck together, oh and its been brush painted in red oxide complete with heavy runs.
So does any one know of any other companys that may sell a complete outer sill.
The Tubular exhaust I bought from Rimmers for my TR7 Spint looks nice in stainless, but it doesn't fit.
Not only does it foul the chassis rail, but the seams were so big that I had to have them ground off and rewelded flat. It still touches. Also, the gasket did not line up with the bolt holes or the exhaust ports. It's total shite and I think Stevie Wonder could have made them better.
I complained to Rimmers and have gotten no response thus far. That's very unlike them. In the past, they have been most helpful in replacing wrong or bad parts.
You could forgive Rimmers on the basis that without the original press tool that is probably the best job possible, similar to the club chassis legs which are a best copy (albeit continually updated with feedback).
However, documentary evidence exists that the tools were made available by BMIHT to their only registered Dolomite 'customer' as early as 1999 when far more cars still survived. However, in the absence of the tooling for the wings they declined, I would imagine on commercial grounds, so no panels were pressed at all. They did have a run of rear valances done though apparently.

No you can't fair enough if it needs to be fabricated rather than pressed but this should be stated on their website. Most importantly the quality of the fabrication is shocking ( the photos don’t do it justice) as you can see in pic3 the two parts don’t even line up. had I known I would have bought the outer panel off the club and fabricated the rest myself and done a much better job than that.
On the other hand the inner sills I got off them are pressed and look to be a close fit and are more along the line of what I expected.

that is really shocking welding and possible dangerous ,the welded points would just break instead of crumpling thus not absorbing the impact, what are the rest of the copy panels like?
they should say that the sills are not pressed maybe its something the club could take up with rimmers.
They may not look beautiful, but they are Sills, after all! The spot welding looks consistent - I wouldn't have thought there is any structural risk from looking at the pictures, and welded joints are nothing to fear strength wise. Are you guys not being a little harsh on this front?
I stand to be corrected if they don't fit properly, of course.. which they likely won't being pattern parts. I bought two pattern Mini Clubman wings for my 1275GT a while back - getting them to fit anything like the originals took a day in itself caveat emptor..
The snag wiith the Rimmers sills is that they cannot fit properly, due to the joint at the front of the sill.
That is why the pair I bought a few years ago were sent back.
Genuine sills do pop up from time to time, but it's a case of being in the right place at the right time.
I question also the structural integrity of them. Granted the spot welds look OK, but on the pair I received, the MIG welding, where the nose connected to the main body of the sill, had not penetrated, and to quote my body man at the time " if you think I'm fitting those, you can whistle, and come and pick your car up!"

I just phoned them up and they just said its the best they can do and that you cant get them any where else( in other words if you dont like it tough). They agreed to take them back without any trouble though, so the only question now is how to replace my rotten ones.
use aluns, I am, they're fine, although not the 'full' originals, they're ideal for the job and can be retro fitted without hacking the wings off.
i did actually have a pair of stanpart originals in VGC, but sold them to the jedi master, who may still have them. he may let them go, but somehow I expect he'll make a killing!
