I found these “new products” at the JigSaw website. This could be of interest for our competition minded forum members:

RHD TR4a to TR6
RHD & LHD Dolomite Sprint
We can supply the quick rack pinion in two options:-

Option 2 - a fully built, ready to fit, rack on an exchange basis

Does this imply that the steering rack pinions of Dolomite Sprint, Spitfire/Herald and TR4a-6 are similar?

Who’ll takes the plunge and test this new item for us

Interesting.

Dolomite rack pinions are unique to our cars.
A few years ago I looked at this and indeed phoned Chris Witor but he hadn't actually commissioned any quick rack pinions
(for the 2000 range), instead he was using "off the shelf" Spitfire ones.
The lack of interest in a secondhand "quick" rack I offered on the forum suggested to me that this wasn't worth pursuing.
(I have a brand new, not reconditioned, quick rack sitting in the garage which I will fit to my car sometime.)

Ian.

Mine also has a quick rack that was in a London tuning shop for years so it is as new.

One of the things that makes a Dolly inferior to an Escort is the clumsy slow steering.
The rack is in the wrong place too as it should be in front of the wheels which is why it gets bent in rallying.

And the angle isn't right. It has a lot of bumpsteer but the otherway round hitting something does bend it that easy. I'm expirimenting with an e type s1 rack that has about the same dimensions and when i fit a RHD rack it turns ok for a LHD Dolomite. It's twice the size of a Dolomite one. A decent diametre rack and trackrods.

I would like a quick rack, but not prepared to pay the price at our friends in Lincoln, so was considering building one using the new Jigsaw pinions.

Has anyone tried these new quick rack pinions, or even spoken to them to confirm they do indeed work with the Dolomite. I'm just concerned about Ian's comment that the pinion is unique to our cars.
