Got a bit carried away

#1 Post by David6214 »

So I had this grotty old smiths oil pressure gauge, the word oil was coming off, the brass behind it was all oxidised and the glass span off in my hand.

Working condition though so I thought I would repaint the black bit, losing the word oil (lets face it I know its a pressure gauge) and either fit it to the sprint or sell it on.

Only I went a little too far and got hit with a desire to autosol!

Only trouble now is it looks like it should be on a boat.

Picture isn't too clear, but its right shiny!

I won't try and do the rest of the dash....

You may have something there....

Might look quite interesting - a whole bank of gauges done like that in a dashboard, perhaps black transfer-lettering on the shiny bit to denote which sort of gauge - only trouble is it would be an arse to have to keep taking them apart to repolish them!

Why not go whole hog and polish up the backplate too, removing the print from that as well; you could have a complete set of gnostic gauges that only you can read properly...

So you won't be bidding then xv1?

I will probably spray it in black, but at the moment it looks great in the kitchen, its not recording much though.....
