Tax Exempt

#1 Post by paul6car »

Just been down to the local DVLA (while it still exists) and they have agreed that my 1974 July registered Sprint, built in December 1973, gets free road tax following the budget. My daughter says that as well as the tax disc in the post they will send a Hair Shirt and an Albatross to wear because I run a Sprint. Sometimes I think she is right!! :D

Hi Paul,

What did you have to tell them to get this sotred? Do you now need a new V5?

I have a march 74 registered Saab 96 V4 which was built in 73 (the VIN begins 9673....... which means saab 96 1973)

Obviously it too will be tax exempt if I do whatever you did

Anybody know around what VA number the cutoff for a build date in 73 was for a Sprint? I have an N plate 74 registered car and have my fingers firmly crossed! :)

Thanks

You'll be lucky!!!! If it's on an N it can't have been registered before August 1st 74 which means a minimum 7 month delay between build and sale for it to qualify! Not impossible but very unlikely unless its Mimosa Yellow with a VA number under 2k!

It is number 4590, so I guess the chances are pretty slim.

I might get it a Heritage certificate anyway though.

Just out of interest Paul6car, what is the VA number of your Sprint please. I have a May 74 registered Sprint and would be very interested to see if mine was built before or after yours. I take it the VA number denotes the order of build??

Cheers

At which point I'd have assumed sales would have dropped off somewhat...
