First Show of the year and WVF869S Sandglow Sprint

#1 Post by Howiesprint »

Took a ride out to Earsham Hall near Bungay in Norfolk yesterday for the Bungay Lions Classic and vintage vehicle show. Not that far from where I live and was a really good day out with some lovely cars, buses, trucks and tractors on show. In particular, a good turn out of Morris Minors and E-Type Jags and a very good sprinkling of Triumphs, mainly Stags, TR's and GT6's/Spits. Only two Dolomites, my Magenta Sprint and a Brooklands (I think) 1500hl with sprint wheels, the owner of which was doing a bit of auto jumble.

Here's a few pictures of some of the cars on show. Not neccessarily the best there but some of my favourites. Couple of pictures of my car as well. Is it acceptable form to take pictures of your own car at shows? I thought if I didn't have it I would take pictures of it so what the hell!! I like it!

I especially like the Dove bodied TR4 and the VW Fastback, my mum had one just the same!

I had a few people talk to me about my car, the normal "I used to have one of them". One chap told me about the Sprint he once owned. A 1977/78 Sandglow Sprint that he bought almost new from Mann Egerton in Norwich. When he mentioned the Reg No. WVF869S, it rang a bell for some reason so I took his number to let him know whether it was someone in the club who now owned it. He had looked on the DVLA site and had seen it was still taxed. He sold it in 1987 and still pined for it after all this time! After searching about on here for a while I found some fairly recent photos of it and that the current owner is Len Hughes. I am sure the chap I spoke to would be thrilled to know the wereabouts of his old car. He still has the original handbook and a number of MOT's for it! So if you're reading this Len, would you mind if I e-mailed a few of the pictures I found to this chap so he can see his old flame again?!

Howard

P.S I did wonder whether this is in the wrong section but there is Dolomite related stuff so took the risk!

I don't see anything wrong with taking photos of your own car at a show. I do it and post on my Blog and my "resto" thread.

Len posts on here under his own name so hopefully, he might see this thread. You could try sending him a PM.

Hi Howard,
I recognised the number plate in the subject title, I purchased this car in 2006 and am still the proud owner... :D

It resides in Southampton and I know Len too...

I would love to know more of the history of the car...

I have sent you a PM.

Regards Dave

Ahh, small oversight on my behalf it seems. Funny how the position of a simple comma can throw a spanner in the works sometimes. Must read things more carefully in future!

WVF869S belongs to Davbat and not Len Hughes! Apologies to all concerned.

Hi Howard,

Unfortunately not mine! One old Sprint is enough for me at the moment although I'm pleased to say that I managed to drive mine for the first time in over 2 years the other day and it was brilliant.

I'm sure Dave will have more that the odd photo to send to the original owner.

Hi Howard,

Thanks for finding WVF869S.
This is it on the first day of my ownership back in 1979

Kind regards Keith.

Hello Keith,
Welcome to the forum. Glad you found us!

Great picture of your Sprint back in the day! I'm sure Dave the current owner will love to see it and will probably have some more recent photos to share with you.

Cheers
Howard.
