ooooooo! TR6 wheels as well! - There's a lot of T2000 owners who would like to do that mod, but finding TR6 wheels can be difficult and pricey... so that's a bit of a bonus...

The latest update is it runs nicely, doen't appear to have any major rot, and has mk 2 manual/od running gear.

That is sort of good news.

Mark 2 engines have 7/16" head studs so don't blow head gaskets
but,
the mark 2 2000 is encumbered with a ridiculous inlet manifold and the wrong cylinder head .

However, the good news is that it is possible to fit a skimmed 2500S head and adapt its (HS6) manifold to take Strombergs
or get the original manifold improved.

I know you do Bruce but I am kind of getting attached to them. Umm, I guess I might rephrase that.

Bruce, I cleaned off all the rust from a couple of the mild steel sections (not the stainless bits). It looks a lot cleaner now but I would suggest you invest in a tub of B & H Deox Gel and lather these bits with it. There is a lot of pitting and then you could spray it with weld thru primer for a stock finish and good heat and rust protection. Just a thought though.

Assuming my sums are right, with an auto diff, overdrive, 15 inch wheels, and 165 tyres, this thing will be geared for about 25 mph/1000 rpm in 4th overdrive.

HMMM! I had a 2500S Estate, an auto converted to man O/D and with a 2000 TC engine and the obligatory Stag 14" alloys with 185/70s. So the gearing was probably pretty similar to what you have!
Granted the body was heavier than yours both by being a mkII AND an estate, also the 2000 TC is the most gutless of all the sixes, still it was exceeding sluggish off the mark and hated hills, even on the motorway.
I'd consider a lower diff, but try it first, I had a GT6 which ran 25mph/1000rpm (3.27 axle and O/D) and that went fine till the diff exploded and I dropped it to the stronger 3.63 at 22.8/1000.

Minty lamb site has all the gearing and tyre combos you could ever want....

if you do 25 a 1000 you are in the middle of the torque curve at motorway cruise. It should also still pull 4k and give you the ton on the continent.

As long as its not geared too high to move off loaded in 1st its not that much of an issue....you can always change down higher up....

Right then,probably the wrong forum to ask this on, but..........
I've been offered a lhf wing for the 2000, at sensible money.

How much more difficult is a 2000 wing to fit than a Dolomite?

Ok, not much progress in terms of actual work, but lhf wing has been acquired, the correct starter is hopefully turning up tomorrow, and rear wheel cylinders have been ordered.

Just need to get holiday, and work out of the way, and work should start in earnest.
