Spin on oil filter...which one?

#1 Post by USASPRINTMAN »

Can someone tell me what filter is needed for a Sprint engine with a Spin-on conversion? A Crosland part number is ideally what I am looking for. I can get Crosland filters at my local Detroit imported auto parts store.

Many thanks,

Unipart GFE180 S/S to GFE173
Fram PH2964
Coopers Z121

They should be able to X/Ref from these numbers, let me have the Crossland number when you have it

I ended up using a Fram PH3600.

It is a much longer filter -- which is a good thing. It fots no problem in the TR7 Sprint, don't know if it would work in a Dolly Sprint.

It appears the Fram PH 2964 and the Unipart/BL filters were never used on anything sold in the USA, and the numbers don't cross reference to anything.

Confused in Colorado !!

Same situation but for the Sprint....I need a spin on filter. In the States, the auto stores don't have the Fram 2964 in their computer, nor does the Fram web site. My car currently has a Wix WL7074 filter on it, but Napa (parts store) which handles Wix doesn't show that one in their computer eother. I checked clearance, and can't use the PH3600 because it is too long, and will interfere with the steering rack.

What am I to do? I always like to have 3-4 on the shelf, ready to go.

What brand are the one's the club sells? Perhaps I should order a half dozen of them, and if need some Richard I could send them on to you after they get to the States? I hope their is another answer, because shipping for 6 filters might be expensive. Malc...can you give a guesstimate of what shipping might be?

Thanks as usual to everyone for their help.

I'd be interested in buying half a dozen or so spin-on Filters. The longer filter won't fit on my Stag, which also has very little room underneath.
Hey that reminds me...there are a lot of guys here with spin-ons on their Stags, I wonder what filters they are using?

The Stag spin-on might also work on the Sprint. I have a friend whom I can ask...

The kit from rimmers is the same for stag, dolomite or TR7, so I guess it should fit just fine.

Dave:

Yes, the Spin-on kit is the same. But the filter is probably different for at least the TR7.
On the TR7 you could use a filter a foot long because there is nothing but air underneath it.

The Stag has the right exhaust pipe under the filter/oiul pump area. And Sprint, as we know, has the steering rack to deal with it.

Richard...I will let you know once I get word from Malc on shipping cost for a dozen. Then we can split them up once they get to the States.

Does anyone know what brand the ones are that the club supplies?

Thanks
