I used a pair of these straight off a Jag years ago but the engine I fitted them to was far from standard. It spluttered quite a lot when pulling out of junctions...............until I pulled out the choke and then it went like a stabbed rat.A rally driving friend of mine was amazed at how quick it was on full choke. They dripped petrol around the alternator which was a bit of a hazard and I got rid of the poppet valve butterfly discs, bought new ones from Minisport in Padiham. You'd need to open up the intake holes in the manifold and the mounting rubbers to take full advantage and get then set up with the right needles. There is a place in Essex specializing in carbs and bits.

Hope this helps.

Thanks Mark, was just toying with the idea, I know the rover hs8's are not recommended because of the vacuum drillings being smaller ( whatever that means :) ).

I was told that the problems with the HS8's off the Rover are the smaller jet size and the restricted piston lift. They are therefore, supposedly, no better than HS6s. There's some info in the TriumphTune performance manual from the 90s.

The problem with, at least some of, the carbs off the Jags/Daimlers is that the front one needs the dashpot and damper shortening to fit under the bonnet. It's hard to see from these pics, but it looks like these aren't modded in that way. I suppose you could bulge the bonnet instead, but that seems a bit drastic.

The HS8s off the Jag fit on a TR7 sprint OK though, which is why I've got a set on a modified manifold in the process of finishing off: just need air filters and they're ready to go. Think I'll put the Solex twin choke side draught 45s I've also got on the dolly, but I might do it the other way round, if I can get the HS8's modded.

Interestingly, demontweeksoutlet on ebay have/had the Pipercrossair air filter back plates for the HS8s about 2/3rds off: I got a pair for £5.99 each inc p&p yesterday. I'll check they fit OK before I spend £70 on the filters. My other option is to drill out a standard airbox back to take the HS8s: I'm not paying that much for K&Ns for the 2" carbs unless I must. But for me, the standard air box is the least best option if maximizing performance is the goal, even with a K&N insert.

Thank's Graham, i used to have a copy of the triumph tune manual but mislaid it, it did contain some useful tips, i suppose if someone still has a copy i could be scanned and put on the wiki as a tuning guide :)

What's your plan for dealing with the brass pipes for the AED, which go in engine side of the venturis? I've just got some hose of the right dia. and intend to just cross link the carbs.

At this moment i have no idea as i do not have a set of hs8's yet to make any decisions as to what goes where :) ,i did sell a whole setup with manifold to the guy who's name is not mentioned on here in the early nineties but for the life of me cannot remember the actual set up as i never had it fitted to the car ( it looks like the enrichment / choke arrangement is different on the ebay ones to the standard setup ).

No probs. Is there aught you want a scan of while I've got the manual out?

Rover ones do have limited lift. They needed only hs6 but jag's had hs8 so rover would also. The same as Triumph. That's why the works sprints had in 1974 48 webers because ford had only 45.

Which work's Doly Sprints had the webbers? I know the group four 16V TR7s had Webber 48s in the 76-9 rally seasons, but I thought for group one, which the british touring cars were at the time (74-5), the dolomites had the HS6s and group one and a half cars had the HS8s.

I have also acquired a pair of Jaguar HS8's to go on my Sprint engine and am just going through the process of working out the best way to connect them up with a choke etc etc.
Does anyone have a good picture of a set installed on a Sprint?

Mine look the same as the ones on Ebay, there are a couple of take off ports to block and they originally had the AED device (kind of an auto choke) on the Jags but I will obviously use a manual cable choke. I have some spare HS6's so can rob them for linkage parts as required. The plan is to get a rebuild kit from Turner Carbs so will be picking their brains for ideas as well.

Anyone else out there who has done this and can add any good tips please?
