Thanks for the tip! Certainly something that needs thinking about........MIG Wielder wrote:It doesn't have to be a track car or race-car . This thread goes back a few years to my then Sprint daily driver. And it had standard rubber bushes each end.

Re: Rear Suspension Arm Failure (Again)
Ive just done the rear arms on mine - there was no welding at the points mentioned, just a smooth pressed flange. Surely though, the damage to the arms in the photo is nothing to do with the bushes and everything to do with having over-stiff suspension? All the loadings from the axle to the spring get transferred through that small part of the arm, if the suspension is so hard that it cant compress then this is exactly where the arm would bend and exactly the damage i would expect to see.

Re: Rear Suspension Arm Failure (Again)
It's the left to right twist that tears it, not the up and down movement.

It's 106 miles to Chicago, we've got a full tank of gas, half a pack of cigarettes, it's dark, and we're wearing sunglasses.

Re: Rear Suspension Arm Failure (Again)
I dont agree - sorry. Looking at the photo thats not a "twist" failure, its a straight overloading failure. No evidence of twisting.
That arm has been overloaded with harsh use and over-hard suspension.

Re: Rear Suspension Arm Failure (Again)
I totally agree Matt and I would recommend staying always below 200 lb inch and no more than an inch lower.
I also prefer the voided style of front bush if you can find any.

Re: Rear Suspension Arm Failure (Again)
Has anyone looked at the end of the suspension arm where it goes into the axle,
If its shiny and the axle bracket is the same that may be the problem esp on lowered cars

I cant say Im surprised metal components that are 30 years old fail especially when you are driving the car beyond the scope of what it was designed for.

Some people are like Slinky's, they serve no real purpose in life but bring a smile to your face when you push them down the stairs.
