Can anyone help??

Ok so went to leave this morning for work and thought I'd take the Dolly to work for a nice Monday morning drive.

She started first time with no problems with no 'out of the ordinary' sounds and a lovely alarm call for the neighbours at half 5 in the morning

I pulled out of my road and began to ascend the fairly steep hill out of Wycombe towards the M40...............but.

As I went up the hill things didn't seem right and the engine sounded off - almost a misfiring kind of sound without misfiring (if that makes sense?) and a much throatier sound than normal.

Got home after work took the dogs for a walk and then up with the bonnet to see what's what - when rev'd the engine seems to lurch a little to the right and the sound is almost like there's too much air in there and it's blowing a bit or something (sorry the description ).

Last drove on Saturday with no issues but I did leave the lights on and had to jump her other than that nothing strange has happened recently.

Could I have an issue with the distributor, plugs, air filter, carbs or exhaust....or could it be a combination or a much bigger problem?

Sorry if I haven't given a very good account but any advice would be appreciated.

if it started and ticks over i would say it's not carb or dizzy related - a thorough check of the exhaust system including manifold would be my starting point

i've had two exhaust manifolds crack on triumph engines, so it might not be as bad as you think...

If it will drive that far bring it round....

If not stick a smartphone vid somewhere we can see it.

Check breather hoses and anything esle inlet manifold side....

Exhaust blow should be obvious.

Yes, I'm inclined to agree. Exhaust problem. We know that hill up to the M40 and it's steep ! So lots of revs at medium speeds = lots of exhaust forward pressure. If your 1500 one is like the 1850 one you will probably find its parted company with the front box---> down-pipe. That might also explain the excess movement of the engine as the exhaust does provide an element of engine support. And the reduced back pressure will mean the mixture will be running a bit weak.
Budget for a new stainless steel one perhaps ?

Thanks everyone for the advice and assistance - finally had a chance today to have a good look and see what the issue was....

Change of plugs and leads and balance of the carbs and all is well again in SE land....thankfully it was nowt serious, now I'm off out for a little trundle in the Chilterns
