Wow, what good timing this is!

I have this very day bought a running sprint engine to rebuild with a view to building a track car: I haven't got anything else yet...just an engine!

So, I'll be keeping an eye on this build for sure!

How are you getting on with this now, still progressing?

That needs a rebore. You wont ever remove those marks by honing alone, you will be wasting your time and wearing out your hone trying..
Matt.

I assume then that honing doesn't remove as much material as a re bore then?

For me that needs a re-bore or maybe just a liner in the damaged one if the rest are good..

The Honing tool is really just for deglazing the bores so that new rings can bed in properly. I usually only spend about 10-15 mins. deglazing (per cylinder).

Thanks for the feedback guys. You're probably right about getting it rebored/resleeved but I'm in no hurry so I may just wear out my honing tool trying. I'd better check the bore diameter as well. It's probably eliptical by now.

Ah I see! Only ever built new engines so reconditioning techniques are all a bit of a mystery to me at the moment!
