recomendations for Bank Holiday Monday...

#1 Post by Jon Tilson »

Any recommendations for a classic car show or autojumble on the Bank Holiday Monday in May?

Jonners
Note from Admin: sadly Jon passed away in February 2018 but his humour and wealth of knowledge will be fondly remembered by all. RIP Jonners.

Popham Airfield between Andover & Basingstoke off the A303, Aero/Autojumble & Classic Vehicle Rally & Fly-in.

Good mix of cars & planes, if weather is good.

Think you need to pre book to show your car, do a google search.

I am hoping to go in MSO, if weather good.

If the weather is good, I might well go along. I went along last year and it was a lovely little show with a good range of interesting motor cars in a great location.

If it is now "pre-book" then I have a problem..I don't do "pre-book". Just to park my car in a cow shite filled field?..no thanks..

Yes, another great car show that has an aviation theme as well. I seem to remember from last year one could just "turn up" in their classic and pay on the gate, but I don't know for sure as last year I managed to secure a ticket from a local car club.

Be a nice drive out if nothing else :suntan:

Hi All,
Not been to this before and am not working over the Bank Holiday so weather permitting I too shall go...

I think you need to write to the Manager of Popham airfield to obtain a pass (according to their website)

Be good to see your car Tony and catch up with Reg also. :)

Cheers Dave

Excellent Dave, are you going to get a pass?

I will try to get one if there is still time, last time I went in a classic they did let you in but that was about 10+ years ago, they seem to be a bit stricter now.

Reg did your car pass it's MOT, would be good to see it at Popham.

Hi Tony,
I've posted my letter of request to the Manager @ Popham today, hopefully they'll send a pass before the 5th, if not do you think they let us in..?

Then I've only got to hope for good weather

Cheers

Hi Dave,

Let me know if you don't get your pass in time, I might be able to get some passes from a mate, but not sure how many I can get.

Fingers crossed for the weather :gleam:

Hi Tony,
Thanks for your offer of a pass, mine arrived today. All in all very fast return I thought...

Weather looks to be cloudy for Monday with a hint of sunny spells, better than heavy rain so all being well I'm there...

Cheers Dave

Anyone else up for it?

Be rude not too really as I'm just a stone's throw away from there.

I didn't get around to grabbing a ticket, so I'll be just turning up in my old chugging PI and hoping for a warm welcome from the very nice chap at the gate.

Hopefully Reg and Jonners will be popping down too?

Superb!

In my confusion with all of these Bank Holidays recently, I had thought this show was on the 26th :? ...hence no tickets. If I still can't get anywhere with tickets from the West Berks Classic Vehicle Club I shall go along and hopefully we'll be directed to their stand. I'll try and get there early so as to organize...

This was a jolly good do; good weather; lots to see; and I came back with lots of useful bits at good clunky prices. The dealers seemed happy to negotiate this year.
Had good chats with davbat and Tony Burd ( excellent Sprints ) and saw HAR in the car-park just 2 rows down from us in SWK. Also saw YPX ( Hi ! ) a very nice 1500 SE. So 5 Dolomites of various flavours in all and a good turn out.
Must go again next year.
Cheers All,
Tony.
