Help With Rear Bumper Conversion

#1 Post by georgiasprint »

I have a '75 Sprint and a shorty Toledo rear bumper. Which bracket do I need to attach this bumper to my car?

Unfortunately the brackets you'd need are part numbers 809477 and 809476 which in turn would necessitate 912281 and 903868 along with a few other bits as well.

You'd be better off sourcing some dolomite bumper corners....

Would you please share the items that those numbers denote?

Sorry Joe, it was a 'tongue in cheek' response, they are Toledo rear wings, bootlid and rear valance panels.

I'm not aware of any bracket that would otherwise allow you to do what you require, with the proximity of the brackets to the bodywork, you might be able to extend the toledo bracket forwards, but it would I think necessitate welding a plate to the existing bracket rather than a mechanical fix, and even then I doubt it will fit elegantly.

I forget. You people speak cynic. Ha! I've seen pic on the forum with the conversion and besides looking better its much lighter. I'll keep you posted.

This will be possible Joe but I suspect you will need bespoke brackets?

To this end I would first make a pattern from wood, or more likely bits of wood.
This will give you the relevant spacings for the mounting holes and the angles they need to be at.

It may be possible to adapt/modify existing brackets but I suspect it is just as easy to (have a blacksmith) fabricate them
from scratch. I quite enjoy heating and then bending steel into shape :) .
You could even have them in stainless steel.......
