Hi From Newbie in southampton

#1 Post by series111 »

:D Hi

After finding this web site a couple of months ago I have been looking through the forum pages and must say that you are all a very knowledgeable and interesting lot.I have gone the whole hog and become a fully paid up member of the club aswell.

We purchased our Dolomite Sprint in July from close to Anglesey in Wales and drove her home to Southampton in one go with no problems, she is in good condition apart from some small bubbles on the bottom of the back doors and one or two little jobs to tidy her up.

I have just brought a sports stainless steel exhaust from rimmers which i will be fitting when the weather warms up ( i hope i have done the right thing after reading off fitting problems on the forum).
I have also just brought a pair of alloy carb mounts after noticing the rubber ones which were fitted just before I purchased the car are covered in splits (5 months old).

Hopfully if i have done it right I have downloaded a photo off our sprint

I look forward to meeting and talking to you all on the forum.

Please can someone in the Southampton area let me know of any meets or events that are coming up and I will try to come along.

Welcome to the forum.

The nose badge is correct for a post-76 Dolomite. The very late ones had the laurel leaf nose badge. I'm not certain when the changeover happened (The parts catalogue doesn't say. It just shows both badges).

There is an active area group in Hampshire and TrustNo1 (AKA Justyn) is from Southampton so he's your man if you need any help. There are a few others on here from Hampshire. Contact details of the local Area Organiser can be found in the club magazine (I think he's a forum member).

Toledo Man,
On the subject of badges. Have I seen a small sprint badge on the front wings just behind the front wheels or am I dreaming.

You might be interested in the Triumph New Forest run that happens in April.
Never been myself but it always sounds like a nice event.

Hi & welcome from another Southampton member :)

tangocharlie1 is our local TDC rep who generally organises events for us Dolly folk throughout the year, I'm sure he'll pop up on the forum to welcome you soon...

Events wise, the first that I try and attend is the 'New forest run' an annual event welcoming all Triumph models http://www.triumphnewforestrun.co.uk/
This year it is the 19th April and cost wise is £12, it's a good way to start the year...

Nice looking Sprint you have too, with the correct nose badge for the year... :)

Cheers Dave

Hi nice sprint I am sure that this is the car that was restored in the early nineties by Howard Bowles,
I have a picture of it somewhere when it was completed, if so then I'm sure you have a fine car. As mentioned on here we have an active group in the Southampton area and I can certainly recommended the New Forest triumph run as a good start point and to meet the rest of us in the area. My details our in club mag or you can PM me on here. What part of Southampton are you?

Ooh..that's a lovely looking car you have there.. 8) We all like to help with questions, no matter how silly they may seem.

I'm often down the south coast during the summer, so hopefully I might see your fine car out and about. 8)

Welcome.

Found the picture and scanned it in, not the best quality im afraid. This was taken in Hampshire at a classic car show
(can't remember where).

But this is your car as finished by Howard Bowles circa, early 1990's, Can't remember the name of the owner at that time im afraid but do not think he was local to Hampshire.

Hi

Thank you for all your welcomes and hellos.

I have been going through the mountains of paperwork and photos that came with the car,

Thank you Justyn for the picture and yes you are right, I have paper work saying that the car had a full rebuild in 1990/91 (66000 Miles) and a lot of the work was carried out by Howard Bowles. The car belonged to a Mr Angus McClare of Cowplain Hampshire, who moved to Somerset around 1996.

I am sorry we will not be able to attend the New forest run as we will be away at the time but hope to catch up with you all at a later date.

Also if any body knows of any history relating to this car or pictures it would be most appreciated.

Thanks Dave.
