Dumbest mistake you have made?
Re: Dumbest mistake you have made?
..in my 'yoof' I once turned of a main road onto a narrow side street in my MK4 Cortina and decided to give it the beanz.... the back end spun round leaving me at 90 degrees to the (rather tall) curbs, leaving me to do a 12ish point turn to get myself out. Much to the amusement of the passing traffic....

Buying one of them Chinese copies of the lower steering column flex couplings (FAM1718).
Luckily, when it failed catastrophically, I was pulling out of a parking space on a side road in a seaside town that used to be busy when the North still had mill towns and they still had works weeks. So it was a good ten mins before another driver even came along to complain about me blocking the road.
But had it been a busy road, it might have been more than an embarrassment. If it had gone at Mway speeds, hitting a pot hole say, I'd have been lucky to only need new trousers.

The 16v Slant 4 engine is more fun than the 3.5 V8, because you mostly drive it on the upslope of the torque curve.
Factory 1977 TR7 Sprint FHC VVC 697S (Now all of, but still needs putting together)
B&Y 73 Dolomite Sprint UVB 274M (kids!)
1970 Maroon 13/60 Herald Convertable (wife's fun car).

Well judging by today, trying to sort a tiny air leak on a compressor and therefore turning it into a two hour repair job... I now have an airline (complete with PCL connectors) running 2 feet from the unloader valve to the switch box. Pretty overkill but I had limited parts.
