Clutch fittings...

#1 Post by shaunroche »

Hi chaps, I've just fitted a Sprintspeed hydraulic clutch actuator and I have found I need a male-male adapter to get the feed pipe into the clutch master cylinder.....I can't remember what the thread form is....could you advise please?

Additionally, does anyone still make the aeroquip type hose that goes from the clutch fluid reservoir to feed the master cylinder please? I could probably get one made up but if there's someone who supplies them off the shelf, that would probably be easier!

Cheers!

This is the one I have.
If I remember, the male-male adapter is included.

I have a HOTOB as well, but I plumbed it to the other
side of the bell housing to stay away from the exhaust.

Just doing my clutch set up too using a home made adapter. Pretty sure the thread from the master is 7/16 unf, also the same as a jic 4 . You can use a jic 4 male male then a pipe with a jic 4 female end.

Also I have a question for you Shaun, could you please measure the length of the alloy adapter you have? I need the dimension from where the cylinder bolts on the furthest into the bell housing if that makes sense? On mine the adapter I made pushes against the seal housing but it came out a bit shorter than I needed, hence the question. :)

Cheers

Nice one Doug, I shouldn't be surprised at the cost from Rimmers really, but I am! I'll have to try and work out what the push on fitting looks like and get one made up....what sort of length is it, about 10"?

Good idea to run the pipes the other side, I did wonder!

Thanks for that too Tony, btw I have just machined the spacer down from 20mm thick to 13mm thick....measuring from the fw bell housing face to the clutch splines on mine is about 20mm so this gives me about 17mm, giving me about 3mm interference to compress the bellows slightly. Is that what you meant?

Yes Shaun thanks for that. Mines over 30mm and I need more, so somethings odd there. Does your adapter butt up to the flat face of the seal housing / snout?

cheers

Hang fire Tony! I've just had a conversation with Rob about this....apparently, with the thrust washer and bellows compressed as far down as they will go, there should be about 5mm clearance between the thrust washer face and the clutch splines, so the whole assy needs moving forward or back until this is achieved.

I thought it should be as above but with interference rather than a gap, so had it wrong. A gap is required to account for wear in the splines, as they apparently move backwards as they wear.

Needless to say, I've just called my machinist mate and stopped him from reducing the spacer until I've re measured everything again!!

Ah by splines you mean "fingers" then. Yes when I measured mine I fitted a clutch and flywheel to a spare block and measured from mounting face of the gearbox to the clutch fingers. It was 20mm irrc. The slave then needs pulling out to allow for the wear on the clutch (so it gets pushed back into the cylinder. I think i pulled out the piston 10mm so it can push out another 5 to disengage the clutch and has plenty of room to go back in for wear. Rob told me they are a bit of a mare as all clutch finger heights are different between cars.

Think I've finally got it sorted, but it has taxed the grey cells a bit!!
