A question of camber...!

#1 Post by grifterkid »

Hello to you all.

This is just a super-quick one!

When looking at the front wheels of my Toledo (it is sporting Sprint alloys!) they seem to be at a bit of an angle when viewed square-on from the front...

The wheels seem to taper in at the top almost like this super-shoddy representation that I'm going to do with the keys available to me on my keyboard...

/---\

Sorry about that!

Should they be straight?! Should they be at an angle?!

Please do let me know if you get a moment.

Many thanks.

There is supposed to be slight camber as youve described I think around 1 degree or similar. If the car is lowered it will be a bit more. It is adjustable via shims behind the top wishbone mounting bracket

Measured at the top tyre side with a square (flat pack bits are CNC created and are square) a gap of !.5 mm approx is normal.

However after hooning for a week or two look at the tyres and if they are wearing evenly, you have success.
Beware too much toe in causes wear on outside and toe out wears inside so using 1.5 mm toe in see how you go.

I NEVER get tyre places to set my suspension I use a laser and a straight edge (no it takes too much explaining) and just recently stringing and my special handles fine and tyre wear is even..............conclusion is that it must work.
track action maniac.

The lunatic is out................heres Jonny!

Worn track control arm bushes can cause this as can the drag strut bush.

All worth looking at. especially if your tyre inner edges are wearing more than the outers.

Did you sort your propshaft noise?

During the early-1980s, I removed the front-suspension, camber-adjustment spacers from my 1974 Triumph Toledo 1300 (at that time, had 175 SR13 tyres on Cosmic 13 x 5½ inch alloy wheels), to increase the negative camber and improve the front tyres' cornering power. I experienced no problems with either tyre wear or steering characteristics.

The prop' will be sorted shortly along with something slightly more serious that happened when I was at the Cranleigh Classic car show the other day  I will be penning a post about that later!
