1500 engine back in club but who built it?
I have just received an engine from a known fool in Nottingham. the chap said that it came from a club member who'd had it built to a high spec so I was wondering who that was and what modifications had been made. the Nottingham based guy is called John Watts or John Volts (he has two email address) and was banned from the club about 3-4 years ago.
the engine number is YC57742HE.
the engine number is YC57742HE.

We know who this "fool" is. I hope you didn't have any problems with him. I'm wondering if this engine has passed through Jod Clark's hands at some point. He works his magic with 1500 engines. Unfortunately, I don't know what his secret is.

Re: 1500 engine back in club but who built it?
Jod's secret is no secret at all...
He just balances stuff, measure tolerances, matches good bits to those tolerances, uses high quality bearings and rings
(nothing from King or county) and a good oil pump. Then he builds them with great care and cleanliness...
So if you DO have an ex Jod engine...rejoice. But I think he has called time on Triumphs of late. We havent heard from him in a while.

This is likely to be the ex Cov Courier engine, built (I believe) by Turner Engineering, spec unknown, but from memory, a nice engine.

ok guys thanks, sounds like some good news. I'm taking off the timing cover to replace the gasket and look for markings on the camshaft and then paint it in 2k black. satin or gloss though?

Re: 1500 engine back in club but who built it?
I googled turner engineering and spoke to a couple of chaps there but they only do rover v8's which is fine for my spitfire but not tracing the engine builder and engine details. whats the cov courier?

"cov courier" posts under this forum under that moniker. He's also the Membership Scretary (I think!). Try sending him a PM. His first name is Stewart. I don't want to put his full name on here in the main part of the forum. I still think Jod Clark has had his hands on that engine at some point. I wouldn't bother getting back to John Whatshisname. I doubt you'd get a straight story from him considering his reputation.

Re: 1500 engine back in club but who built it?
his various stories do tend to change drastically from one chat to another. his life isn't interesting enough so he has to lie. oh well, at least I've got a decent engine from him. i'll be replacing the sump and timing gaskets and whilst in there I'm going to pop a cap off and check for wear and also take a look at the end of the camshaft for markings.
I'll keep you all updated as I find these things out myself and try to upload a picture or two.
