, and has anyone fitted a Stag one to a Sprint ?

I doubt it - were there any non-overdrive Stag?

Most Stags left Canley with an automatic.

Okay.......
The Stag gear lever will fit the Sprint box for sure, however given that you have a very early Stag lever, is the locating cup identical.
If not, it shouldn't be too difficult to make it suitable....
These gear levers are strong and, therefore, can be heated and bent to get a throw suitable for a Sprint if need be.

From this link it looks like there were non-overdrive / overdrive / automatic versions.
Looking at the link I can see a certain similarity in the gearlever bottom end. As they say "the devil is in the detail " as always.
