Richard, you have my unbounded admiration, I think I would have binned that shell and looked for a better one! Yours will be almost a seam welded rally shell by the time you've finished!

Seeing as there are still areas of the floorpan that are pitted / holed, I'm with Jonners on this one. However, you still have my deepest admiration for the work you're doing!Jon Tilson wrote:Think I would have replaced the whole pan there Rich....well not me but my man who can....

Thanks guys
a reshell is not an option for me as I've had this car for quite a while. Also it was my sisters wedding car. So it has to stay!

I understand what you guys are saying about the footwell. But the rot will be removed and fresh metal will replace them. It will be solid honest:D
I'll keep the updates coming. I have a list for this week as I'm hoping to get some paint in the engine bay this weekend

Would also recommend some dinitrol in all your cavities too while you have good access to them.
Mucky stuff but worth it...
Then it can be your daughter's wedding car too....

Cheers Jon. The whole lot is getting packed with wax oil. I'll have shares in the stuff by the time it's done:p I'm hoping I'll have this car forever:D and it will indeed be mine and anybody else's wedding car who wants it:p

Rich, never mind weddings. Your welding skills will be in demand. I've found somebody else (I'll call him Adam) besides the local garage who is a welder by trade (I've lent him my MIG welder) so he's going to do any welding my Dolly needs and hopefully, he can help me improve my own welding skills. We have use of a garage (the same one I've been using recently).
Good to see that you've made a list. Crossing off the various jobs is a big psycological boost and will help move the project forwards.

Right. Progress has been slow last couple of days as unfortunatly I had my daily Mazda mx5 stolen in the early hours of Tuesday morning. I of course did all the important stuff like police and insurance. I then put a post on Facebook in the hope of somebody spotting it. I spent all day in turmoil no knowing what to do. At around 4:45 I had a phone call from someone who had seen my Facebook post and had found my car! I promptly left work and went to recover it. Some damage but not massive or unfixable.

They sliced my roof twice and ripped what they thought was my ignition wires out. Actually my headlight wires. Muppets. They also stole my cb radio and whip Ariel. And my normal radio. Also my prescription sunglasses
But I have it back. That's what matters. They couldn't even get it started due to my immobiliser. They towed it away!!
So onwards and upwards now as they say. Tonight saw more work to the footwells and the engine bay.

More tomorrow.

Is that an Mx5 Mk1? If you need any spares give me a shout. I have an MX minus engine sitting in my garage!
Re: GUH 731W A tale of happiness then woe then more happines
Police wouldn't do anything because I recovered it. Yet if I'd let them recover it they would charge me £250!
It is indeed a mk1 mate. Where shouts are you mate as I do need a couple of bits. A roof and rear bumper. And maybe a couple of other bits.
Cheers.
