Suppliers of Heater valve repair kits
Suppliers of Heater valve repair kits
I am sure this is not a new topic but has anyone found a supplier of heater valve seals / spares other than Rimmers.
I baulk at the thought of paying £47 plus postage for a couple of bits of rubber and tin.
Have tried searching the web and site but no luck.

Re: Suppliers of Heater valve repair kits
I bought one from Rimmers and it leaks, well cheesed off as I'll now have to take the dash out to get to it.
Don't know where else to try.

do the club do them?
Dolomite 1300,1980`V`reg in british racing brown(russet),3.63 diff with 21t speedo pinion,95%poly`d,HL clocks, standard wheels with SE covers wrapt in 175 70 13,mot`d 19-09-2014,been off the since 1990,(july2017) stainless steel exhaust 3-piece,(xmas2018) wooden mountney steering wheel,(june2020) new monroe shock(radial front,gas-matic rears) with -1" lower`d springs all round.
Re: Suppliers of Heater valve repair kits
As far as I can see they do not appear on the club list of spares and from the lack of positive responses it would appear I will have to bite the bullet and go to Rimmers. However not before I have taken it apart and see if I can effect a home made solution - especially as there are a number of complete valve units for other triumphs available - but thanks for for your thoughts

Re: Suppliers of Heater valve repair kits
I have a couple of pre owned Dolmite heater valves. Can't guarantee how good they are now as both have been dry stored for some time but they were fine when removed from the cars or I wouldn't have kept them!

I'm sorry, I only have 2 spare ones and it would pay me to keep one in case one of my 3 Dollies needs one!niceone6blue wrote:Could I buy one from you?

I might have a spare, will have a look & get back to you.niceone6blue wrote:Could I buy one from you?
Hmm.....
It may be worth looking at what Reliant did with their Scimitar?
I am thinking this because some used a bigger version of what started as a Dolomite heater matrix.
The kit car world will have a bespoke solution, which could involve using a different matrix.
I have glanced at listings in the Car Builder Solutions catalogue but haven't given it any thought because
I have a spare heater assembly, put by for the proverbial rainy day.
If secondhand assemblies dry up then we will have to consider alternatives.
Flyfisherman posted photographs of a heater assembly taken separate, it is worth having a look at these....
(hopefully someone more computer literate than me will find and post a link to the page.)
Ian.

Re: Suppliers of Heater valve repair kits
Wish I'd looked at flyfishermans pics - or even the parts book exploded diagram! I just took a spare heater box apart, quite a job in itself, to find that the valve body is actually part and parcel of the matrix.
Thinking about it, I don't think i've ever had one apart before in 45 years of messing about with Triumphs!
Steve
Edit, turns out the parts list exploded diagram is no help either as the heater box is shown as one big lump and neither the matrix nor the tap is serviced separately - or even the tap seals! It's almost modern in its approach - sell one big expensive bit instead of lots of little cheap ones!

Re: Suppliers of Heater valve repair kits
You can change the matrix and valve together from one heater to another, bit it still all has to come out with the dashboard first.

Re: Suppliers of Heater valve repair kits
I manage to obtain a spare heater matrix - 99p of ebay, cost me more in fuel to collect it. Anyway stripped it down, sent the matrix to a local firm for pressure testing all fine apart form the shut of valve not shutting off, they purchase a new valve. I have now rebulit the heater matrix, new neoprene seal fitted to the internal flaps and now awaiting fitment - job for this winter.
