Thanks Rich exactly what I needed. I got a good oil filter without the stuck on paper washers, I think I paid £8.00 inc p+p, but that was in Feb of this year.

Looks like I have re-assembled with the spring in between parts 9 and 10. On mine 9 is a metal washer and 10 is a plastic one, it doesn't look right, the hole in the plastic washer is not in the center of it. I think it is a bodge that has been botched

Karlos 9 is listed as a collar, and 10 a gasket, Part 6 listed as gasket too maybe fibre type washer?

Don't Club Spares supply them?

I've just looked out a couple of complete filter housings I have, NOS and factory supplied. Interestingly, both had AC filters with card rings...now in the bin! I thought the card rings was an aftermarket cheapening!

The AC Delco filters were the original fitment.
Unipart made a version with raised metal ends (I used these when I had a Sprint in the 90s…think they cost about £1.65 each back then),
I believe this was discontinued in the late 90s.

The problems were with the other "alternative" filters which had paper or card rings, these being too thin (or allow oil circulation) and/or
were prone to detaching.


The DSR magazines contained warnings about this (and a list of makes to avoid).

PS During the 90s I sold and fitted an 1850 engine into a Sprint powered beach buggy .
The owner had used a Crosland filter with devastating results.
