Does anyone know where I can get some gear marking compound, the yellow stuff like this...
I can find it across the pond but can't find anything in the UK, except for engineer's blue which I already have but it's difficult to see the contact patch on differentials.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. ... Still Sprintless.
Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.
Mart at work we use "white lead paste" tin has no markings other than skull and crossbones as expected. This leaves a nice pattern on the teeth for checking pinion depth and backlash. Not something I can grab hold of unfortunately.
Another thing Ive used before is "ocra" or ocre which is a super fine poweder than leaves a print too.
I have no idea why that stuff seems impossible to find in the uk. It's just a yellow pigment (iron hydroxide) in grease. You could just make your own if you don't want to wait the week or so for a tube to turn up from the states.
I've just used blue though on the couple of diffs I've done though I can see a brighter colour could be a bit easier to see.
