Nobody has mentioned bogroll!
Did a few more jobs today. The front bumper is now solid. Seems it has never been correctly bolted to the brackets in my ownership! Front valance no longer flaps about (added stabiliser bars back to ARB mounting bolts) and a headlight bulb went Friday night, so replaced.
Alsofound an oil leak. The filter housing big O ring was distorted. Seems to be an issue, not sure why. When I got the engine I had a leak there, and that turned out to be 2 o rings fitted. New O ring will be here Tuesday, along with filter. I have assumed you get a ring with a filter, but really can't remember!
Car has done in excess of 200 miles in the past few days. Feels good.

Clive and co have made it to breakfast at John O' Groats.
The Toledo sounded fine as it headed off towards Bettyhill and the run south through Strathnaver.

but I do remember seeing a 1300TC previously (E reg Valencia blue?) on a RBRR.

We were nicely towards the front of the group at that point, little faffing about. Extremely tired on the last leg to JOG, but a decent breakfast and a few cuppas (plus the staff are fantastic) and we were sorted. I think the adreneline kept us awake most of Friday night, and only after breakfast did I get a good sleep. That continued and the rest of the trip was fine.
The only issues we had were a VERY loud bang soon after Blythe. Rather worried, until we opened the boot to find it was really heavy. And yes, the support spring had undone itself making the alarming noise. " other issues of note. Window winder knob came off, and the same bloke managed to get the clutch pedal rubber off the pedal. Bizarre.
Actually, there is something I am a tad worried about, when accelerating or turning left, I can feel a had knock coming through he steering. It may be engine hitting the rack, or ball joint wear. Wheel bearings feel OK, but inspection on the run didn't show anything obvious. A job later to get the wheels off and investigate.
All in all a great time, very satisfying having completed the challenge.
There was a FWD, owned by Yogi Gay, which is a well prepped and loved car. Damson? and clack bonnet IRC, but didn't see it often on the run.

Your car was going very well every time I saw it Clive.
I was in the Saphire one of the trio of Coventry Sprints.
Awesome event.
Really enjoyed it.
I had some pretty nasty noises from my new LSD, but am told by the manufacturer that I've put the wrong oil in.
I also managed to warp a new Trackerjack brake disc! Not that I was enjoying myself through the twisty bits in Scotland and Wales you understand!

Cheers for that. Yes, the car seems to go quite well, plenty of torque but it feels like it ciuld do with something tweeking as the revs rise over 3500rpm. Or maybe I am just used to a jenvy/zetec combo in he spitfire! However, a session on the rollers may be on the cards. I also noticed recently it rarely needs choke to start, so may need the jets going up a couple of flats or something. But there was no way I was going to play just before the RBRR.
I was twitchy about our brakes, I am still waiting for a mate to open some golf discs up for me by the 1mm or whatever it is. Then I can fit my ford calipers which should make things feel a lot better
Roll on the next 2 years, the car will bebetter by then.Probably need some more paintwork though.
Re other dollys and so on, it seemed they were almost the dominant model (though not sure I would want to use a 1300). And what great cars for the event.

There were certainly quite a few Dolly's and Tolly's this year.
I successfully completed the run in my 1500HL, the "Flying Log" for the second time running in this car, 3rd time for the car as a previous owner also did the run, 6th run for me and 5th successful completion having done it in my GT6 a few times.

I took over forty at John O'Groats, which I will have to post here too (it will take me a while to upload so many

I particularly like your photo overlooking Loch Naver. The mountain is Ben Klibreck, which I have climbed.
The first time was in c. 1997 when I drove there in the Sprint. It rained the whole way from Wick to Altnaharra
(and I mean proper rain like Australian rain, making me wonder if the wiper motor was intended for such
continuous use
)
but stopped as we parked in Stath Vagastie, only for the sky to be filled with dense black clouds of midgies!
As the day wore on the sun broke through and the midges abated leaving us free to enjoy the spectacular views
from this mountain top
.
For the run back we took a detour passed Loch Loyal and Ben Loyal up to Tongue enjoying the countryside illuminated
by the evening summer sun.
Good times.
