Dolomite 1500 Radiator

#1 Post by markas »

Does anyone here have a Dolomite 1500 radiator in leak-free condition that they wish to sell/ exchange for beer tokens :)
They seem hard to come by from the usual retailers; RB have them exchange but I don't really want to have the car cluttering up the workshop while the exchange is sorted out. I know I could pay first, refund later, but parting with nearly 300 quid up front to get the car running without dribbling seems a bit steep :?

I fitted an alloy Honda Civic by "Performance" bought from Ebay new to my special and you can buy a very similar all alloy rad from Ebay that has the hose connections in the right place for the 1500 and it only costs less than £100 and comes with an electric cooling fan into the bargain.
My special is a 1600 turbo and kicks out a lot of heat and the car is as cool as a cool thing 8)
However if you must stick to original please ignore all I have written :D

Thanks for those links. I see that the hose connections are in the right places; are they the same diameters? Would the cooling be adequate with an alloy replacement and the original fan setup? I've got mixed feelings about electric fans on classics. There's got to be advantages to the constant cooling effect provided by the original system beyond its mechanical simplicity.

Mechanical fans as far as I see it are good for a slower warmup, robbing of BHP and insufficient cooling at idle especially when hitting traffic after a fast run!
Current fleet: '75 Sprint, '73 1850, Daihatsu Fourtrak, Honda CG125, Yamaha Fazer 600, Shetland 570 (yes it's a boat!)

Past fleet: Triumph 2000, Lancia Beta Coupe, BL Mini Clubman, Austin Metro, Vauxhall Cavalier MK1 & MK2, Renault 18 D, Rover 216 GSI, Honda Accord (most expensive car purchase, hated, made out of magnetic metal as only car I've ever been crashed into...4 times), BMW 318, Golf GTi MK3 16v x 3
