Last year I bought a spin on oil filter conversion kit from Rimmers. Changing the oil today, I came to fit the kit and found the filter is too large to fit between the engine and steering rack.

Has anyone experienced this and came you tell me which filter I should be ordering?

Is it not a case of putting a shorter oil filter on?

Mine's a HOF200 and that fits fine....

Same thing happens if you get a T2000 spin on filter kit and try fitting it to a GT6 or Vitesse, the chassis gets in the way! But it's relatively simple to find a filter that DOES fit, a few minutes at the motor factors will sort it!

This Fram one works for me, at only 85mm tall.

Decent quality and a sensible price too.

There is no benefit to fitting a spin on converter to a slant engine.

On an OHV engine the filter mounts horizontally and drains when standing giving a dry start, hence the benefit. On a slant engine the filter housing is vertical, so retains the oil so the spin on conversion is functionless.

Add to that the fact 50% of the adaptors leak, though the supplier is always keen to stress they've not had the problem before, and my recommendation is save your money.

Some will claim it offers a cleaner oil change, but it doesn't really.

Thanks for the advice as usual.
A little internet research shows the filter supplied is for a Land Rover defender or a Range Rover P38.

A trip down to Halfords it is then.

You need one suitable for a CVH Escort or Orion.
Unipart number used to be GFE173.

Less flow with the spin on adaptor I believe as well...

It does. On a slant it's a restrictor and defenately not an improvement. And you still have to replace the big sealing ring everytime as with the std bowl type. Changing a filter with the spin on conversion takes longer than the original setup.

Best is to take the conversion off again to have an easy filter change again and the oilflow not disturbed (restricted)

The spin on adapter I have on my Sprint uses Toyota filters. I have a spin on filter adapter fitted to my Mk1 Zephyr as well.
In both cases they are quicker & far less messy to change than the cartridge type.
There is no big O ring/seal to change, as the filters have them built in and they seal against a flat face on the adapter.
Obviously, there is more than one slant motor, spin on oil filter adapter, on the market.
