From the front of the engine the only mark is the one on the timing chain cover. There is a mark on the flywheel but they invariably get replaced incorrectly. What I used to do is set no.1 piston at TDC with the cover on. Remove the cover taking care not to move the crankshaft. Then make a mark on the crankshaft right where the main bearing cap fits the block. I usually find true TDC by using a degree wheel but the mark on the timing chain cover will suffice in this case.
