Here are the photos of the head off.
The gasket was stuck to the head and when I removed the last stud the head and gasket slid across the block. The first two are the head and block just as they came off.
The rest are when I have wiped the oil and water off to clean the faces.
This one is a close up of the corrosion and its about 2mm deep at one point.
The last one is the bock face wiped off with a rag.
Any advise.

Are you saying the block would need a skim as well or do you think it would clean up with some sort of acid or a cleaner. Because to skim the block would mean a full rebuild really.

The block I would try some abrasive paper on a perfectly flat block. Or a wetstone... (block off all oilways etc first though!) It may clean up OK.
The head will need some welding repairs and a skim I reckon. When I was doing my TR7 head gasket the original head had similar corrosion. I found a place who offered some welded repairs plus a skim for about £80, which I thought reasonable enough. Can't find it now of course....but probably similar prices elsewhere (or less than the SE where everything is premium rates often for sub-premium service)
A used head will be better i think. The valves are very deep in the seats. You actually need new valve seats also. What is the scoring in cilinder 2? If it is some kind of reflection those shiny cilinders are not the best ones. Depends on what you are going to do with your car but seeing these pictures on a big screen now it looks like a very tired engine.
