Current Sprint Start Motor Situation?

I'm going to need to fit my starter fairly soon but the old one is both grubby and probably needs a refurb. What's the current state of stock with club ones? I'd rather fit an original style one rather than the Hi-Torq ones which seem to be not highly rated.

I get them done to order, turn around is a few days to a week or so, as I try to drop them off when passing rather than making special journeys. I have plenty of core units though...

Excellent. Do I order through club spares or through you Alun? I can arrange to get you my old core I'm sure. Given the weight of the units it'd make more sense for me to pick up from you anyway and you're not that far away.

I bought a TR7 starter off ebay for my Sprint project and it seems to work perfectly fine. Are they the same motor as the Dolly ones?

To be honest I was more curious about whether the TR7 had the same starter, as it might be a way of increasing the supply of starter motors. The TR7 ones seem to go for less.

I can vouch for the service, and like you Mark, prefer wherever possible to use the club where possible.
I contacted Alun to organise dropping off and collecting at the tdcir.
All done painlessly.

They are similar in that they are a Lucas M100 unit, common to many vehicles of the time, but have a different part number and are therefore different. They will work, but maybe less powerful; also, from memory, I think they're two hole mounting like the 1850?

I may be able to drop one off at the auto electrician tomorrow Mark; we can arrange detail after I pick it up...

The one I fitted supposedly came off a TR7 and it fits and works. Make of that what you will.

Yeah but you also said they had the mountings for an 1850, not a Sprint. Now I have no idea how they differ, so it might make much difference.

I am not trying to get at you, I just thought it could useful to know. I have noticed sellers put a Dolly tax on parts. Identical parts are often cheaper if they are sold for other models.

A good example is the 1500/1300, if you search for Spitfire parts, you can often find them cheaper than going to Dolly specialists. Sellers seem to putt a premium on parts for the rarer car.

When I looked for starters I found that it was cheaper to search for TR7 parts, than ones that fit Dollys. My guess is because the TR7 was sold in American, there is a bigger market for parts.
