Oil Pressure Light Switch

Having got my warning light cluster working and the dash back in the car, I find that the oil light isn't coming on. The bulb and connection is fine because if I earth the wire at the engine end the bulb comes on. So the switch, which was new two years and less than 3000 miles ago, has failed. If I get the thing out is there any way I can kick it back to life, or have I got to buy another rubbish part? I think it is GPS117.

You are not the first to have a relatively new switch fail, I lost one in a lttle over 6 months and 3000 miles. Under exactly the same symptoms as the first failure, ie the light came on at idle. I was so sure it couldn't do the same thing twice in such a short time, I convinced myself I could hear the ends rattling! But in the end, I went for cheapest first and another new switch cured it and left me cussing myself for my overactive imagination!

As far as i'm aware the switch isn't the least bit repairable, duff is duff, bin it and get another!

It's a pretty generic switch, shared with all Triumph models (except Acclaim, obviously) and most other contemporary BL stuff too. So it shouldn't be TOO hard to find a decent NOS replacement.

I have had new ones from the dealer fail Mike :( Always has been luck of the draw. I bet if you find an old second hand one, it would last for ever :D

I bet you are right Tony. The only reason I changed the original was because the spade terminal snapped off and I couldn't see any way of repairing it.

You may want to consider a replacement switch that puts the oil light on at approx 20 psi instead of the usual 4 or 5 psi.
I think mine came from Vehicle Wiring Products,but I'm sure they're available elsewhere.

Just find a branded one, best NOS, with an 1/8npt thread and the switching PSI as you like. Better to high than too low. 50% of '70s and '80s cars have 1/8NPT thread.
