StagDrag strut/compression strut

#1 Post by Boost All The Dollys »

Does anyone know if the Triumph Stag drag strut can replace the Dolomite one? The nuts and bolts that hold it on are a similar size, the hub end bolt is same diameter but 1/4 inch longer.

I broke my Dolomite one taking the front suspension apart and Rimmer Brothers don’t stock a replacement.
So many ideas... So little budget... So little time.

If they were the same, they'd share a part number.

I can probably find you a good used item; are you on about 218482 corner of subframe to lower wishbone?

Not Stag but T2000.
Triumph did do this for ST (Special Tuning),
Since it is such a good design,
I think it is a pity they didn’t make use of this on the production cars,

They have to be shortened and reinforced at the TCA end.
Superflex sell replica ST bushes.
Chris Witor sells remade cup washers, reinforcement sections and HD stainless steel washers.
I got NOS T2000 tie bars from Rimmer Brothers ( in a sale).

I think the anti roll bars fitting is different to the drag strut.

So is the drag link is too long and flimsy? Does Chris have a website or anything?

Thank you

From the rimmers site, they don’t share the same part number as how the anti roll bar attaches is different. On Dolomite, it’s hole through and a crush tube, on the stag/t2000 it’s a tab, I just meant is the overall dimensions similar?

I was going to replace my anti roll bar with something that allowed for that anyway as I’m not a fan of the way the Dolomite one mounts to the drag strut, think I read something about if you polybush the roll bar it can get ripped from the subframe, I also want a touch of adjustment so might go to something like an mx5 bar as there’s plenty of aftermarket for them

The Stag Drag strut is bigger. Bolt hole centre to bush face is 300mm. On the Dolly it is roughly 270mm. I think the wheel end is also slightly wider. See attached pics of a Stag drag strut - also the a/r bar mounting is different, but you already knew that:)

Hope that helps.

Thanks Tony, you have saved me the effort of searching the forum for your thread!

Since you did your installation, Chris Witor has had the cup washers remade.
They locate the bushes very well indeed.

It is too long but it is not flimsy. The reinforcement plates are needed to reduce it's opening by 8mm to fit snugly on to the Dolomite TCA.

The threaded end snapped off from the nut rusting to it, so not very salvageable, unless I turn it into an adjustable one somehow.

From what everyone has said above, I might just go ahead and use the T2000 with the “ST” bushes, that Chris Witor does a “fast road” rubber for the T2000 so I’m going to use that with 2x4mm spacer washers to make it fit and use the T2000 ARB mount to attach a Mx5 anti roll bar so it can be adjusted or replaced easier

Sprint speed sell adjustable ones, but i cant see why you couldnt repair yours if its just the threaded part thats broke
