GHS146 / 132668...

#1 Post by Sprintinbits »

...are the codes for the felt seals which go inside the front hub and seals the stub axle.
I need a set for my rebuilt subframe.
Question is, has an uprated seal kit been used or recommended. Felt just seems so last century darling

Thanking y'all :D

Any thoughts on this old thread ?!

I’m setting up bearing spacers and the guy who’s selling them says that the replica felt seals are way too thick and don’t allow you to set up the bearings properly.

Does anybody have a couple of spare original seals ?

Thanks, Richard

He changes his mind with the weather,he says use Timken bearings, i did mine came with the felt seals, i steel couldnt set mine up, like i said before im sure hes made them the wrong size,

when i first bought mine he said he didnt have any or the Dolomite,he had Stag ones and he was going to modify a set

ive given up on mine now,he ended up getting me to buy two sets of wheel bearings and still on joy

I am guessing that was the E-bay seller. Doesn't Ken Clarke do these too?

I believe the difference between the Stag and Dolomite is length.

Stag uses a longer stud axle pin so guess the spacer is longer.

Think I saw somewhere about Ken using or making these bearing spacer kits.

If you have a spare Stag kit I could be interested.
As mines running Stag hubs😏.

Yes the Stag does use a longer stub axle,my kit was made up for the Dolomite so wont fit Stag hubs, but i know some one with a new stag kit not fitted ,he now has upgraded to alli hubs and bigger stub axle using the bigger wheel bearing on inside and out,i can ask him if he wants to sell his bearing spacer kit

I may also up grade my hubs to the alli hubs and bigger stub axle

Yes if you could ask.

Where are the hubs coming from Rimmers/Chris Witor ?

Could you set up the spacers without the felt pads.
Once all set then refit the felt pads.

Believe the spacers lock the inner races.
So end float would be set with the spacer shims.

Yes, that’s what I’m looking at doing. Set up without the felt seal and then fit a timing chain cover seal from a Morris Minor !!

It’s also made of felt with a thickness of 5.5mm rather than my new 10mm Dolomite part.

Outer diameter is 54mm and inner diameter is 35mm. Yet to check those dimensions.
