New 40 DCOE Webers.

#1 Post by B8WLY »

Gents.

I am thinking about putting new 40’s on my Sprint over the winter.

Is there an exact model number for 40’s that are best suited to a Sprint ?

Also if anyone knows the best place to get a deal on a pair would be really appreciated.

Cheers.

Richard.

DCOM are better for streetuse than the DCOE. The DCOM have five and better suited progression holes and is more usable on the street. The internals and body are the same as the DCOE. The DCOE is fabricated for competition use originally and the DCOM were standard equipment on some cars like the Peugeot 205 GTI.

Are there any advantages to installing 40s on a standard Sprint engine, apart from the intake noise?
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. :boggle2: ... Still Sprintless.

Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.

If I remember correctly, the cross sectional area of the throttle opening on 40’s is the same or less than the std HS6 1 3/4” SU’s

45’s give that bigger throttle opening area and generally are seen as an upgrade. But not advised unless other mods are made along side, fitting them.

And a 205 GTI had injection….. 205 Rallye (not the Uk one) was a homologation special, and had 40’s as std. would love one!!

Cheers Gents.

In response.

The car is already fitted with 40s but they are believed to be needing a major overhaul. I was going to take the manifold off anyway as I want to have it blasted and cleaned and was going to fit a 123 dizzy before the spring.

The rest of the engine is tip top so a straight change over for new 40s was the plan. Sell the old ones to recover a bit of cash.

I could go back to SUs but the car does run already on a 40s set up so hence new ones.

Any advise on the particular model of the Weber would help or the jet set up,

Any other advise gladly accepted.

Cheers.

Richard.

More hp achievable because all situations are adjustable and far better response. Su's are a delay carb like all the CV type carbs.

But setting up a weber isn't a few hours job. Anyone who can isn't doing it properly. Rolling roads are declared holy but most users are like me in my fancy new kitchen not knowing how to cook.

Well that is the problem with most mods, they aint bolt on, if you change one thing you generally have to change something else to see the benefit. Then you have to set it up properly.

The cheapest way to get more power is probably a good service and replacing any worn parts/hoses. I would put good money on most classic cars producing far less power than they did when they left the factory.

How do you plan to fit the 123 dizzy?
Its something I would like to do but sourcing an adapter is the problem.

Hi Gents

In terms of the dizzy 123 I have been in discussions with Leen at the 123 Ignition Shop in Holland. At the present I am going to send my old distributor which they will use the old gears from, or I could provide a new set of distributor gears from Rimmers.

They will then convert a brand new 123 Bluetooth distributor. Please see below Leens explanation.

We wil use the gear of your old distributor or the new gear from rimmers. We can adapt the rest of the 123 ignition so that you can mount it without the need of extra adaptor plates. (so incl mounting bracket\plate) Or we can use the bottem of your current distribtor and combine it with the top of a 123 ignition.
You can choose what option you like best.

Cost for the above, €700.00

Not cheap but if plug and play I think it’s a reasonable one off cost.

Cheers.

I thought this route was fraught with all sorts of problems. At least thats what i recall when researching it. Conclusion seemed to be "avoid".
