Sprint Vinyl Roof Fitting

#1 Post by quantumowner »

Hi,
I'm looking to replace the vinyl roof on my 1976 Sprint.

My local paint shop is removing the old vinyl roof and will carry out any necessary repairs, but they haven't ever fitted a new vinyl roof.

Is there anyone on here who would be willing to fit the new vinyl roof or knows someone experienced in doing this. I have bought a new vinyl roof from Aldridge Trimming.

I hope someone can help.

Thanks.

I am sure they will have supplied the right thickness. I have a problem because my new material is too thick and the S/S trim will not go over it.

I think they call it scalping, its wear they thin out the material from the back, if you thin out the material you should then be able to fit the stainless trim

A pro vinyl roof fitter will do this as a matter of course, the vinyl should not extend to the very top edge of the metal gutter but be a couple of mm below it. You can do this, but it needs care and a very sharp scalpel to trim away the excess. Then the stainless trim will fit just fine!

To the OP, before we can recommend a vinyl roof fitter, it would help to know your rough geographical location!

Not heard from/of him lately, but is Spiro a possibility? His business was just off City Road in Cardiff…

I’ve sent you a contact number for him by PM.

That's most upsetting to read; please do pass my best wishes to him.
