1850 , 1977 servo part number ?

#1 Post by MIG Wielder »

Hello All, Is an 1850 servo part number 64049508 please ?
There is also another number on the casing : 64049(?)507- 84DK. I think the last bit is a date code ?
Is this the variant with metric fixings ?

Thanks All,
Tony.

Hi Tony,

According to my parts book (dated June '76) Part number for 1850 Brake Servo is 519970 for both single and tandem line units.

All the best,

The number you have beginning with 640 is a Girling part number. I don't know if or how you'd be able to cross reference it these days.

Last model 1850s, ie those with dual circuit brakes (roughly) got the Sprint servo from new. These would also have metric fittings throughout. I can't say for sure if the 1850 servo appeared with metric fittings or not, my instinct is probably not. I've not seen a metric fit servo in 1850 size and there doesn't appear to be a part number for one. In any case, the imperial and metric fit servos are completely interchangeable, subject of course to you having the correct nuts available!

Part numbers that I have been able to find (I don't have an early 1850 only part list) are 1850, single and dual (LHD) up to comm number WF68823 use 519970 after that they go to the metric Sprint servo of AEU1304 (Imperial Sprint servo is UKC 1253)

If you contact a trader like David Kingerley they'll have a Girling catalogue for sure

The easy way to check for imperial or metric fittings is the size of the nuts securing the m/cyl to the servo. Imperial are 9/16" and metric are 17mm. Quite a big and unmistakeable difference between the 2!

Hello All, Thank you very much for your replies. Yes, I should have said, those long part numbers are Girling part numbers.
As a matter of interest there were some differences between the old and new servo units.
The old one ( probably 45 years old) has ...
Front studs 3/8 UNF - 24
Rear studs 5/16 UNF-24

The new unit had ...
Front studs M10
Rear studs 5/16 UNF-24.
And it was sold as a 72 --->78 1850 servo.
Still it fits and works.
And its a right fiddle getting the old unit off. The top rear nuts in particular; it's 1/6 of a turn at a time on each nut.

Cheers All,
Tony.
