water pump

#1 Post by pigeon56 »

Hi

I am removing my engine from my dolomite 1850 but unable to remove the water pump, can you see the water pump once the sump and crankshaft is removed so that you can drift the the water pump from the sump area.

I believe you need a reverse thread hook/loop that you can use with a slide hammer?

No. A slide hammer is required unless you are really lucky that it releases when you try to undo the LH bolt, but in those instances it generally leaves the cage behind.

Yes the bolt is a left hand thread, but as Alun said a slide hammer may be needed to get it out, and then the cage may still be stuck inside. It can be a very difficult job. This is what mine looked like. The cage remained in my engine and was the very devil to get out. When you consider it is only held by two O-rings, you wonder how it can be so stuck.
