1975 Sprint LHD (Door) B-pillar gap

#1 Post by hundertneuner »

Hello,
my name is Sascha and i am based in Germany. Last week we (my friend Dittmar and me) bought an 1975 Sprint for him, one of 20 made for the German market as teaser cars.
Apart form the production quality in these days, all door gaps have BL-Standard. The only thing we are not sure about is the difference of the b-pillars gap left- and rigthand. On one side the gap is taller to the rear of the car, on the other side it is the other way round. Is this normal? Thank you for your help in advance!

I can quite see how this would offend Germanic sensibilities towards build quality and panel fit. Unfortunately it's pretty much par for the course for 1970s Britain, Not just BL, but all of them. I'm not proud of it, it just IS!

There is also the age of the tooling used to build the cars to be taken into consideration, even in 1975 and with only only circa 10,000 Sprints built, the tooling was already late middle aged having been building bodies since the first 1500FWD models in 1970. The tools were slated to last only till 1978 when the Dolomite was supposed to be replaced with the ill fated SD2. As we all know, SD2 got itself cancelled and the tools soldiered on for another 3 years after 78. It's one reason why so little tooling survived to be used later, by 1981 it was mostly truly beyond further use!

I wouldn't worry too much until you can see both sides at the same time!
