OHV intake manifolds (single carb)

#1 Post by Bunji »

Does anyone know how many different types of single carb intake manifolds were used across the OHV range (including Spits)?

And what size runners each type has.

UK only the "log" type fitted to the dolly 1300, and the curly type fitted to heralds. Saying that no idea about what the FWD cars had.

The log type is a more advanced design. This stuff is worth a read. The first is written by a very clever chappie, and john is a bit of a genius.

John Kipping (who is in new zealand somewhere) did lots of stuff with carbs, he found twin strombergs to be the most economical, but he really liked a single 1 3/4" carb on his 1500 heralds.

The single carb will naturally give a smoother cylinder fill, as it has a even/continious intake flow. Twin carbs are constantly on/off, which will not be as good, but they have other advantages. (firing is 1342, or start at the end, 21 34. Front carb feeds 2cylinders, then rear carb feeds 2. A crossover manifold would be better, but very complex, just look at the single weber dcoe crossover inlets)
