Yes its very annoying, I didn't know there was a difference between Sprint & non Sprint.
I have a selection of trims here but the offside Sprint one I have is damaged, all the others are non Sprint.
Not sure where I'm going to find one?

Not that it will help Tony, but I think the original vinyl was much thinner than the reproduction stuff we use today so the trim went on much easier...on the two Sprints I've done I have cut the vinyl along the back of the gutter and applied some sealant to it to reduce water ingress.....
Come and see some pretty shoddy, slow driving of a really well prepared competition Sprint here!

There are indeed separate part numbers for Sprint trims...every day is a school day!

The question is, can they be visually identified?

I successfully sent a pair of these to Malta a few years ago!

Ignore the dial on the caliper it is out, non Sprint are just under 13mm across the widest part

Image

Sprint trims are just over 14mm

Image

So about 1mm larger, side by side you can see the difference, Sprint on the right

If you do have a spare offside one Alun I would be interested, I would probably pick it up from you. For now I can pinch the one of the other car so no rush.

Has this size difference got more to do with the trim clips that are used on the gutter?

All the early Dolomites (1850s) that I have done haven't had these trim clips that go on the gutter (and no vinyl roofs), but the Sprints and later cars seem to have them. I wonder if it has anything to do with the vinyl roofs, larger trim with a clip to accommodate the vinyl for the roof?

JGJ has these clips.

Yes the larger trim is to accommodate the vinyl that overlaps the top of the gutter on Sprints. For this reason there is usually a clip or two added to the A post where there is no vinyl.

Non Sprints have the narrower trim & don't need any additional clips.

Later non Sprints may have used Sprint trims (maybe they consolidated the trims to the larger ones) in which case they would needs clips on the main gutter & A post area.

Alun very kindly sorted me out with a Sprint gutter trim, went straight on, very easy.

Fitted the engine & gearbox this weekend, dropped the engine in then fitted the gearbox from underneath, not the easiest way but it think there is less risk of damaging the paintwork this way.

Great job Tony. I'm lucky enough to have an overhead gantry in my garage so I used to mount the engine & gearbox together on the subframe then lower the body over the top. As you say, it is a bit close especially by the exhaust manifold so I used to put a folded towel on that side with Mary keeping a close eye on things, as I lowered the body. Putting the engine & gearbox in separately is probably the best way to go with the limited space you have. :)
