Hi all
Other day out in the car pushing it a bit 90mph in places, something broke while driving, bit of a bang sound and then alot of vibration. Pulled over looked under the bonnet under it etc couldn't see anything out of place, car ticked over fine, drove it at 30mph about 5 miles home, noise was only happening on drive and got louder if i went faster. So could feel something vibration like behind the driver seat. Got it home and looked under it and from what i can see the rubber boot on the propeller shaft has ripped itself to pieces. anyone any ideas what might have went? Or could the boot and maybe a clip have snapped and was hitting the underside as it spun on the shaft?
Thanks

Re: Propellor Shaft Boot tear?
Sounds as if the rubber annulus on the propshaft centre bearing has gone; you'll need to remove and split the propshaft to replace it if it has...

Re: Propellor Shaft Boot tear?
Either this ^^^^ or the central CV joint in the propshaft has broken up.

Could also be the rubber boot on the CV joint has failed. This is becoming an increasing issue with the age of our cars, and there doesnt appear to be suitable replacment available.

Re: Propellor Shaft Boot tear?
I think the OP has bigger problems than the split boot with severe vibration in the driveline. The boot split is probably one effect rather than the cause of the problem.Philip Larmour wrote: ↑Wed May 08, 2024 6:35 am Could also be the rubber boot on the CV joint has failed.
