But all Sprints wooden bits were/are Walnut!

Or did you mean they changed it to Burr Walnut like the Dolly SE, as opposed to the cheap stuff that's usually in a Sprint?
yeah sorry, burr walnut a la rolls royce.it looked absolutely stunning.the car itself was near concours.the owner had spent thousands on it.my mate got it at beaulieu autojumble in about 92 93.i would hope it has survied.i particularly remember one spirited drive in the wet my mate rolled a fag with one hand and steered the car round a bend on opposite lock with the other.

Black Dolomites

#18 Post by mbellinger »

Mark is correct in that the various seventies BL cars were available in black to special order, and at an additional cost.

I can say with utter certainty that Sprints WERE available in black to special order in this way. My certainty is because my fathers boss had two such vehicles in a row. The first was new in 1974, and the second replaced it in 1977. Both were supplied brand new by Henlys in London.

He actually had a third on order in 1980 when they ended production, again in black. Henlys told him that as production had halted and only "stock" vehicles were available, he could not have a black one made. He was furious, stormed out of the dealer principals office (after telling him what he thought of it all), and went straight out and ordered a brand new RS2000 instead, in black naturally.
