Track Day Insurance
Track Day Insurance
Good morning all..
Just wondered if anyone had sourced annual track day insurance associated with their normal road insurance.
I have asked a few companies but can’t find anyone that does it.
I do around 3-4 track days a year and at the moment buy a daily insurance for it which runs at about £80ish..

Re: Track Day Insurance
I've never done a track Day, would like to do one, but didn't know you needed insurance

It’s good fun… can go at your own pace.. but nice to get the car going at a pace
Insurance is not mandatory but I get it just in case I damage my car or others as your standard insurance won’t cover you..
As won’t your standard breakdown cover.. I drive to and from the track so useful to have track breakdown cover to get home..
I have wondered about doing a club track event.. the TSCC do a few throughout the year…
Be good to get a few dolomites on track at the same time…

Re: Track Day Insurance
I enjoyed many track days in the past but never took out insurance for the day, knowing it would be at my own expense if I, or anyone else, pranged my car. I was lucky to only have one incident which resulted in the offside rear door being dented. You do not need cover to insure yourself against hitting other track users. If you hit someone on track, they can not claim off you. On saying that, it's not a bad idea to get insurance for your own track car.
Nigel, you could try MGs on track www.mgs-on-track.com, we had a couple of events with them at Silverstone. We also had a few events at Castle Combe with the TR Register.

Likewise, never bothered with insurance (not saying you shouldn't: You do whatever puts your mind at ease) - Figured if I messed up it would be at my own expense..... Which I did; a couple of times.
Mercifully no-one ever messed things up for me, so no idea how that would have panned out.

Re: Track Day Insurance
I too have done more than a few track days with the TR register, but never bothered with insurance. Despite driving the car there and back. I think it helps to know, in the back of your mind, that you have to drive it home at days end. Especially when the red mist starts to descend on your brain, it's the last little voice of sanity!
I've only had one little off track excursion at a sodden Castle Coombe, fortunately didn't hit anything solid and was able to get back on the black without anything worse than a bit of a fright! Obviously not trying hard enough!

Re: Track Day Insurance
When I drove my M3 on track I used Reis Insurance specifically as track day cover just in case, though as I use my competition Sprint on the road, they insure me for that too, fully comp.
Come and see some pretty shoddy, slow driving of a really well prepared competition Sprint here!

Re: Track Day Insurance
My biggest concern was not about the on track damage that may occur due to my poor driving
but was more about getting recovered if something were to happen, damage due to an off or a breakdown.. as like you Steve have to drive home too
I am not 100% sure but have heard (sure its in the small print) that breakdown cover will refuse to come out if they know you are at a track day... I have seen some people pushing their cars off the track onto the road to get recovered.. not as that isn't any more obvious than being with the track boundaries so not sure how they got on ( was a guy in an EVO with a lot of oil coming out of the bottom..)
I struggled to find breakdown cover that would cover for track days without coming with insurance for the day as well...
I'll have a look at Reis for next year... although not managed to get anywhere near a track this year due to weather and time... but there is always next year...

The Championship coordinator of the TR Register sprint and hill climb championship that I compete in has just had this very same scenario.
He was refused recovery from an event by his insurers despite him having cover in place specifically for that eventuality.....or so he thought!
Bottom line, speak to LV Britannia rescue - they apparently will cover cars damaged on the track that then can't be driven home. He says '...they will provide full recovery for named cars in the UK including recovery from Paddocks for cars physically damaged, not just broken down....'....
Sorted!
