I think we have found DLM in South Australia....proving hard to get in touch with, he appears to no longer be a registered on the TDC.

I'm currently trying to sort out another registration mess. Apparently it is not wise to obliterate the chassis number stamped on the suspension turret and simply use the VIN plate. Thanks for the info Carledo. And btw, your braided brake hoses are magnifique.

A mate has just emigrated to France with his 78 series 3 Sprint. Your troubles are minor compared with what he has gone through, Que'est que cais no VIN? No visible engine number? Sacre bleu! How are ve to know it is not a ringurr? Computer have a heart attack! He had the same problem with the "O" too, but in reverse! The comm plate has the O but the V5 (British reggo document) did not for some reason, probably a UK clerical error at DVLA, as all series 3 manual cars had overdrive as standard. Whatever, that gave the French computer hives to go with the heart trouble! Poor guy ended up paying someone to oil the rails for him to get it through the red tape for him. (essentially this is, I think, just someone who knows which palms to cross with silver!)

Steve
My TR6 V5 is also missing the O, I decided not to mention it when I realised as I suspect it could be a whole hill of pain getting it corrected!

If your number is not long there, find someone with a set of letter/number stamps, just punch in the numbers into the top of the LH shock tower. Put some water on the stamping and a little rust will age the stamping. If the numbers are still there, but painted over, do a small paint strip of the area, and clear coat over the number.

The stamping does not need to be a high quality job, as the original stamping was of poor quality and varied in location, anywhere around the top of the shock tower.

Unfortunately most people doing these inspections these days are box tickers, and have no understanding of how BL built cars 50 years ago. Make them happy by what ever means you have available. From personal experience (trying to register a non Triumph car built in the late 1970's and had only been out of rego for 2 years) trying to do the "right thing" could the the wrong thing, and can bite you hard. No matter how much knowledge and experience you might have, the bureaucrats will know more (at least they think they do) and wont' listen.

Good Luck
