Just been given a Dolomite box, I`m assuming it`s Dolomite because it has the bolt on mounting bracket at the front of the tailshaft. Are 1300 and 1500 the same internally, and does the 1850 use this box or the Sprint type.

Added info, Ive just been researching the numbers and it seems that this is what Rimmers refer to as a late 1500 gearbox. I am still unsure of the differences because other sources seem to intimate that they have the same gear ratios. Hope so because I was hoping to re-con this one to slip in to my 1300 when the weather is better.

Same gearbox fitted to dolly 1300, 1500 and spit 1500. I think from about 1974? (earlier cars used a 3 ail gearbox)
More like 76 and later in the Dolomite range, Spits had it from late 74.
But yes it should be good to go in unless someone, sometime has retrofitted a 3 rail gearbox (not unheard of!)
The clue is in the position of reverse gear in your car, next to 3rd and you're good to go, next to first and there's some bodging gone on!

Thanks for the replies. I know mine is a single rail box, it is a 1979 1300 and I had the box out to do the clutch when I first got it. What I wasn`t sure of is whether the internal ratios were the same between 1500 and 1300 gearboxes, although top is going to be the same on both so I don`t suppose it matters.
I'll get in before Richard does, there is also a scroll type & lip seal type bellhousing. Neither is compatible with the other as the input shafts are different.
Sprintless for the first time in 35+ years. ... Still Sprintless.
Engines, Gearboxes, Overdrives etc. rebuilt. PM me.
And then there are the midget 1500 gearbox. Looks identical, except the input shaft has a taper/edge behind teh splines. Mike Papworth ran his hand over a gearbox I was selling, said nope, it was a midget box and not worth his time.
I guess they have different gearing.
I assume Rimmers are still producing and sending out Dolomite and Sprint parts and accessories catalogues if you request one. I have an edition 2.2 and on page22 it list manual gearbox components for the various cars. As previously stated the late 1300 and 1500 gearboxes have lip seals which require a different input shaft and Bell housing. The 1850 gearbox also has different lay shaft cluster and 1st, 2nd and 3rd gears
